=================================================== A simple Google search for teamspeak/vent hosts gave me this: http://www.darkstarllc.com/ http://www.darkstarllc.com/ventrilo-servers/20/hosting-singapore-city http://www.clanwarz.com/ http://www.clanwarz.com/teamspeak3/teamspeak3-locations.php There are more, but either it is (a) way more expensive, (b) not for Teamspeak 3 or Vent, or (c) not hosted in Singapore. (for some odd reason, I can't find any hosted in MY. Go figure) Both are around the $5~$6 range per month for 15 people, even for DarkStar and their "dishonest" display price (the first link)... ... Note that prices are probably in USD and that there's probably is going to have some more hidden charges, so think somewhere around SGD$8~10 or MYR$11~14. ... and as long as the prices hold in that range (and the servers get used), I am willing to pay for said host, and will be willing to pay for it whether or not I get any donations from clan management or members. (Of course, it would be nice to get some monetary help, but seriously... 10 bucks?) So here we are. First up, I'd like to do a test run of probably one or two months to see if this idea is even viable in the first place... but to do that I'd need to ask you guys a simple question (which is the whole purpose of this thread)... Do we NEED a dedicated clan voicechat host? If yes, Teamspeak3 or Ventrilo? Please answer in the poll above. Of course, if you have any other suggestions, or have something I overlooked, (such as another voicechat hosting site. Or... *gasp* an already free voicechat host elsewhere) feel free to reply in this thread. PS: Note that I dislike Skype. I can use it, but the "always on" mic tends to irritate me. ... And yes, it irritates me THAT much.

| why isn't there a Others choice. i hate skype, it eats bandwidth like a fag and disconnects randomly never used teamspeak, those are for old mans from team fortress 2
used to use ventrilo, compact, simple and fast, until i found mumble
if anyone bother to try, i have a free server that can hold up to 150 players. like i say, we need to make sure we have enough people with mics and are willingly to install those chat programs before investing anything into it, exactly the same thing i told freedom last month.
so this is it use this first, i have plenty of slots, make sure people likes it, then we can talk.
program : http://mumble.sourceforge.net/ host address : mumble.gameplanet.co.nz port : 64738
and frankly, it doesn't matters if the server is hosted in sg/my or not, worst case scenario is only a 2 second delay in transmission. So far i had no problem with this server being in NZ

| 3 notes: I've seen mumble hosting in one of the sites I linked in the first post... so that's what it is. (Sorry about the lack of an "others" option...) Downloaded and installed And, apparently.... There is a Singapore test server. I'd be busy today, but anyone wants to try out this thing together with me sometime soon?? =================================================== (what are the double-posting rules in here anyways??) Oh my. Oh farking my.... I saw this in the welcome message for the Singapore test server for mumble: - Quote :
Did you know you can get your own free five slot server? Full SuperUser access and full ACL access for free You can also display server stats or online users on your own webpage with our api Real SSL your server will show up as green in the master list Online support via mumble or live chat, we are here to serve Vist www.freemumble.com and create your own server now, it's free. Lemme repeat the keywords... - Quote :
- ... five slot server... it's free.
I'mma setting up a free server RIGHT NOW. =================================================== More information: - Quote :
- Your currently only allowed to spawn servers in :
New Jersey, Seattle, Dallas. Subscribe for more.
Every 4 hours your server will automatically shut down and you'll have to log back into this website to recreate it. The only other restrictions on free servers will be the 72 kbps bandwidth and 5 connected users only at one time. Ah well, there is no such thing as a free meal ticket I guess. ... 4 hours, that's more than enough time for 3 games now, is it? It's more than acceptable for a trial run. Plus we can see how lag from an overseas server can affect voice chat at the same time.

| Ok, for now we're going with trexene's server as a testbed server since its free and have 100+ connections. I've created an account with mumble (as a backup) just in case we get trolled out of there, although trexene promises it wouldn't happen...

| I always prefer TEAMSPEAK or VENTRILLO OR MUMBLE
You neeed not worry about the delay, about the lag that skype can deal upon to your gaming.
and most important thing is
PTT -> PRESS TO Talk key
It is fking annoying when you listen all kind of different background noise from different player.
for Teamspeak there is free server which i have no idea how to get it where my SuddenAttack Clan ( Team Lyn ) is using it.
Ventrillo Darkstarllc.com is good to use. My SA clan has been using it before change to teamspeak after not so many ppl active in VoiceChat.
i think darkstarllc 10 user is around rm113 per year?? ....get 10 person to share....rm13 per person nthg wrong... Well there is always public and free server to look up for

| I think team speak is good.. as it has separate channels and its alot easier to organise stuff there. but the down side is that it cost money. raising the funds of any sort is a sensitive issue. And skype is free, most of us has been using skype atm.. I will look into this and maybe after the 12th of feb, whereby all inactive members will be kicked, i'll get back to u on that...
I apologies on the late reply as wat trex said some of us are too busy to keep up with everything that goes on here. Especially me cuz im MARRIED!!! lol

| Been a while since I posted in here... As we all know (I hope) we have a Teamspeak server hosted by some kind, kind dude, and is used fairly often... ... as long as he's online, and doesn't crash. Plus its unfair to him... TS may use very little bandwidth per person... but 10 people crashing in on a certain someone will probably lag his game of LoL to the point playing fast/smart-casters is impossible... The above offer still stands: - Quote :
- Both are around the $5~$6 range per month for 15 people, even for DarkStar and their "dishonest" display price (the first link)...
(the only reason why I didn't get that server? The sux-tastic testing phase, where nobody used anything, as above) So, once again: Do we NEED a dedicated clan voicechat host? If yes, Teamspeak3 or Ventrilo or Mumble?Oh, and also indicate what capacity you think I should get (10 people? 15? more?) (As I cannot edit the poll above, feel free to post your answer instead)
